REITERATES NO RANSOM POLICY
LOREN URGES IMMEDIATE ACTION FROM THE GOVERNMENT
=======================================================================================
Senator Noli "Kabayan" de Castro expressed his dismay
over reports that suspected Abu Sayyaf rebels struck again taking
this time several cosmetic salespersons in Patikul, Sulu
yesterday noon.
Reports indicate that the victims were on board their vehicle
when two armed men stopped their vehicle and abducted them.
One of the abductors was identified as Abdumun Sahiron, said to
be a nephew of Abu Sayyaf leader Radulan Sahiron alias Kumander
Putol.
In connection with this, Senator de Castro stated that despite
the military's claim of the weakening of the Abu Sayyaf forces
and the death of Abu Sabaya, the threat from the remaining rebels
remain real.
"Kailangan tugisin kaagad ang mga natitirang Abu Sayyaf
rebels upang masagip ang mga kawawang biktima. Dapat ding
ipatupad nang mahigpit ang no-ransom policy ng pamahalaan."
"Unless we would like to be again at the mercy of the Abu
Sayyaf kidnappers, something must be done to send a strong
message to these rebels that the military is really bent on the
wiping the Abu Sayyaf by immediately running after these
kidnappers and rescuing the hostages in the soonest possible
time."
Senator Loren Legarda Leviste described the incident as very
unfortunate saying the government should be challenged by the
recent incident.
"All the while we thought it was already neutralize. Tapos
hindi pa pala. I hope the government will act swiftly on this
matter." Legarda said.
Legarda expressed fear that international community will again
issue statement against the Philippine government specifically to
possible investors and tourist planning to visit the country.
"I expect the military to act immediately. We have to show
our seriousness to solve this problem. This has been affecting
greatly the image of our country in the international
community." Legarda said.///Camille p. balagtas
