PROTECT PINAY HERE AND ABROAD... SENATORS

LAMENTS THAT PINAY OFWs more exposed to abuses
=============================================

"Pinay workers are more exposed to abuses"

Thus declared by two Senators who insists that it is high time Filipinas be given enough attention by the Philippine government.

Senator Tessie Aquino-Oreta said being a mother it is her deep concern that increasing number of our Filipino women are forced to leave their homes to seek better employment abroad.

Oreta recognized the strength of Filipinas here and abroad but she expressed alarm that with the recent economic situation, more and more "motherless" families with children deprived of the necessary parental care and guidance were forced to work abroad.

Oreta lamented that these overseas Filipino workers are more exposed to abuses than male OFWs, yet they barely earn P8,000 a month on the average, or far less than the monthly-pay average of over P12,600 of their male counterparts.

Oreta observed that these government figures show that more and more women are taking on the task-and risks-of either being the sole breadwinner or a co-breadwinner in their families, leaving their young children behind in the care of relatives, friends, or even total strangers.

What is more worrying, Oreta said, is that majority of these women leave at the time when these kids need the care and guidance of theior mothers the most.

Another distressing revelation, Oreta said, is that government studies show women are paid less than their male counterparts, as shown by their remittances averaging only P8,240 a month, while men were able to remit a bigger monthly-pay average of P12,665.

Oreta suggested that government shift its focus on creating local jobs as she pointed out that the policy of exporting Filipino labor could be sustained only in the short term because foreign markets might soon edge out overseas Filipino workers from their employment ranks.

Senator Loren Legarda urges the immediate passage of Senate Bill no. 733, otherwise known as the "Movement to Help Eradicate Rape and other Female Abuses Act or "Mother Rape Prevention Act".

Both Senators are known for being a staunch advocate of women's rights and welfare.

Legarda revealed that cases of rape, sexual harassment, sexual assaults and other crimes whether inside the schools and workplace, in the open streets, and even inside our homes, continually increase in an alarming rate.

"Without necessarily discriminating men in this issue, it is a fact that women are more vulnerable to becoming victims of such crimes. This highlights the need to legislate a system that will provide women with proper training to enable to protect themselves." Legarda said.

The said act seeks to equip women with the necessary skills and training to guard themselves from any harm that endangers their safety, dignity and reputation.

To ensure the effective implementation of the proposed measure, the Movement to help Eradicate Rape committee shall be created. It shall be in close coordination with the Board Advisers which is composed of the Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. ///camille p. balagtas

JAWO TO CHURCH: "RESCUE THE PEOPLE FROM SEX CULTS"
===================================================
Senator Robert S. Jaworski (Ind.) yesterday called on the Catholic Church to prevent the people from joining religious groups practicing religious perversion.

Jaworski's call came on the heels of the discovery of a sex cult based in Negros Occidental, which called itself "Espedeject Ideology: Global One Man Rule Program."

Jaworski discovered the existence of the sex cult when its leader, Leonardo C. Erobas, recently sent to his office a letter containing a manifesto and photographs showing him (Erobas) engaging young girls in sexual intercourse as well as nude pictures of women. The senator immediately asked Director Reynaldo Wycoco of the National Bureau of Investigation to probe the matter.

In a statement, Jaworski pointed out that it is the vow of the Church to teach its flocks to live a sinless life under the morals and rules of the Christian faith.

He noted that it is very obvious that Erobas and his followers are propagating and practicing rituls completely in contradiction with and assaulting the true meaning of Christianity.

"This is not the first time we heard of a bogus religious group propagating and practicing free sex. I believe that the Catholic Church should strengthen the faith of its parishioners, through homilies or otherwise, and make them cling to the true meaning of Christianity that is devoid of immoral acts," he explained.

Jaworski stressed the photographs clearly revealed that sex is part of the cult's rituals. The manifesto, written in Ilonggo, even said that sex and public nudity purify the soul.

Erobas proclaimed himself as "the trampool man..genius Kurkokok, rule, author, scientist, creator, founder, inventor, journalist, writer, maker, and superbeing." He even claimed that Ninoy Aquino entered his body.

Jaworski said that the Church has the highest moral duty to rescue the people from the "hypnosis" and influence of Erobas and other sex cults parading as religious orders.///camille p. balagtas

BARBERS DEFENDS PNP AGAINST RUBOUT ALLEGATIONS
==============================================

Senator Robert Z. Barbers today defended the Philippine National Police (PNP) from allegations that some of its members are involved in a series of summary executions and rampant cases of human rights violations.

Barbers said that every time members of law enforcement agencies kill in a gunfight criminal elements, speculations will always arise that these are cases of summary executions.

The former Interior and Local Government Secretary issued the statement following reports that the death of five carnapping suspects along Congressional Avenue in Barangay Toro, Quezon City last Sept 14 was an alleged rubout contrary to earlier reports that it iwas a shootout between them and members of the PNP-Traffic Management Group (TMG).

The Mindanao solon explained that he is not tolerating the alleged police acts iif they are true nor he is in favor of summary executions but he urged some people to be more considerate in commenting against police operations especially where suspects are killed in a gunbattle.

"Every time the PNP launches manhunt operations against criminal syndicates, one of their feet is practically in the grave already. The police always risk their lives for the sake of public security when they go against nefarious individuals, and yet, they are always recipients of unjust and unfair allegations for their deeds," Barber pointed out.

Barbers, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Order and illegal Drugs expressed disappointment that every time a shootout between police and crime suspects take place, many human rights advolcates will always claim that it ws a rubout if the suspectcs are killed.

"However, if a member of the PNP died in a defense of the human rights and slafety of our citizens, very few people would care to ask if the killer was arrested, or even commend the police for his gallantry," Barbers said adding that he will contiuously support the PNP as long as its operations are within the bounds of the law.///camille p. balagtas
